I’ve been a little slack with the whole writing thing. It’s seems over the last year there’s been a steady leak-o-rama of primary documents. So I’ve been plowing through a mountain of mp3′s and pdf’s and came across this little gem riiight at the end of the SHSBC (Saint Hill Special Briefing Course) ‘E-meter Talk and Demo’ lecture transcript, dated 7 May 1961:
I have a piece of news for you – just – I might as well put onto this last few inches of tape here that’s running,
that you will be interested in. We have theoretically transcended MEST universe weapons. It may not mean much to you as a sudden statement. But as you go off the top of this meter – in other words, the meter is no longer active on the individual – it means his tolerance of motion, his tolerance of change, is so great that if you hit him with a bullet you wouldn’t hurt him. You probably wouldn’t even be able to hit him with a bullet. And the big boys walking up and down and mocking up space flights with their – from their arsenals of atom bombs… Here they are, with their nice, polished atom bombs that can wipe out the world, and so forth. Well, nobody developed a defense against the atom bomb, and for a number of years I actually worked on MEST defenses against an atom
bomb and I know they could be developed, but it would cost billions.
And we all of a sudden have a defense against the atom bomb. A person who is supercleared, probably up around the level of Theta Clear, is not affected by them. He could probably stand right in the middle of an atom bomb blast, but his tolerance of change would be so great…

And that’s presumably where the tape ends. Now, hmmm? Did I read that correctly? Because, given that stuff L. Ron was saying in that post from earlier…it, um…it seems like – that in addition to the atom bomb destroying all government’s claim on sovereignty because they can’t protect people against an atom bomb – he theoretically (of course), is the possessor of the “tech-knowledge-y” (I made that one up btw…COPYRIGHT! 
) to be completely immune from the whole atomic explosions causing death thing. Therefore he does have the power to protect you all from nuclear holocaust and all that…hence he and anyone else who (theoretically) get to theta-clear are by default the sovereign rulers! HUZZAH!
Wow, I hope I can find the audio for that one! What a doosey! And can anyone say cold war paranoia, much?. Though to be fair, I hear there was a lot of that going around back then. Not like they’d even dream of capitalizing on people’s fear of imminent attack these days!
Ah LRH – you may have willingly left your body – but little gems like these live on…and totally make my day. Hooray for wilkileaks! 
[Edit: It also occurred to me that the "study tech" with it's slavish focus on decoding single-word meanings to the exclusion of all other clues from which we normally construct semantics from syntax, could be a bit of an impedance to one *ahem* reading between the lines...yeah? Just sayin'...]
